The Cunt Gets a Megaphone

Hi, I’m Steff, and I’m the proud owner of a soapbox.
I’m a smart gal, but it’s a big world and a lot of happenings escape my notice. If you see something that gets under your skin, that just ain’t right, and you want me to comment, send that bad-boy link to me, and if it gets my panties in a bunch, I’ll take it on.
There’s no fewer than a half-dozen stories from today alone that have me really, really pissed off. I want to speak to the issues, and I need your help. Send me links. Send me excerpts. My email’s on the sidebar, and my box is open to you – always. I may not get back to you quickly, but if it pisses me off, there’ll be a rant posted same day.
I’ve always been a very political person, but over the last five years I’ve become increasingly silent on issues because I’m so depressed about the state of neighbouring America and the turmoil around the world, but I’m sick and tired of keeping my mouth shut when it seems so damned few people are saying anything of consequence. It’s time I put my money where my mouth is and speak my mind. It’s time I lead by example – it’s time we all did, and I don’t mean those sanctimonious religious fuckers who are trying to legislate morality.
I have sex as often as I’m able, within the constraints of my own sense of morality. I’ve given blow jobs. I’ve taken it backwards and forwards. I’ve used birth control of more than one variety. I’ve had sex in public places. I own sex toys. I’ve watched porn. I’ve tried to become better and better at sex every time I have it. I own bondage gear.
And I am not yet on a first-name basis with Satan. Shocking, I know, but true. I, in fact, (gasp) have gone to church in the last six months. I donate to charity. I do not have a criminal record. I do housework. I pay my taxes – honestly. I don’t lie on my resume. I call my parents regularly. I’m always punctual. I’m a model employee. I treat people with respect. I ride a cute scooter and obey the laws of the road.
Nonetheless, right now, I’d like to be getting shagged silly, and if that makes me amoral, then sign me up, baby.
Religious Right, fuck right off.

As much as I’d love to Steff, I’m going to refrain. As someone who is training and studying to jump right into human rights advocacy, I am constantly researching human rights, and I download and print off anywhere from 3-15 articles a day.

To put it bluntly, I would crash your e-mail server.

But I love the fact that this has so passionately consumed you. It is extremely heartening to see someone who feels as strongly about rights issues as I do.

I look extremely forward to reading your future posts; and I honestly hope that everyone else sends enough to you to keep you going for a very, very long time.

Welcome to the world outside the bubble.

Im physically aroused because you are a red head. I am mentally aroused because you hate the religious right as much as I. Isn’t Vancouver a WONDERFUL place to live really. It has its downfalls, but really….it is pretty damn nice.

If you want, you could go off on Pat Robertson. I was about to, and almost started, but I got too upset and refrained. I uttered words nobody should utter when I spoke of him, and realized I should just stop. Maybe one day I will post them, but for now, it is safer not too!

K, this is the first time I’ve left a comment, but I just want to tell you YES YES YES on the Religious “Right.” Indeed, fuck right off.

I spend a lot of time studying the USA because I like our neighbors to the south (that and the focus of my Poli Sci degree is the good ol’ US of A), they’ve always fascinated this Canadian girl, but to watch this downward spiral disheartens me, makes me feel as if the America of all that is right in the world is all an illusion — I know it is, but a girl can dream.

I’d send you articles, too, but like mad coyote, I fear I’d crash your server.

But, if you haven’t already seen the video of the Senator from South Dakota describing a rape, a quick search for it will have you writhing on the floor and not in a good way.

    Ay carumba.

Rally — LOL. I look like a redhead there, don’t I? No, blondeish, actually. It just seems red there, for some reason. My hair was a bit wet in the shot anyhow, and sometimes it looks reddish when the light hits it — Mom was a redhead, so I have the genes, just missed the punch. 🙂

Pat Robertson gets a BOOK of rage thrown at him! But the guy’s a fucking nitwit! He’s apologizing weekly! I can’t BELIEVE what he’s said about Muslims!

GOOD Muslims are some of the most incredibly kind people I have EVER met.

RADICALS of ANY kind piss me off. You wanna hug a tree? Have at it! You wanna be a redneck narrow-minded fucker, GO for it. You wanna be a religious dick from the Christian spectrum? Be my guest!

BUT STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM ME, and do NOT push it in my direction. 🙂

That’s my sentiment. Believe what you want, but let it stop at your door. We should not legislate out of religion or fear. We should legislate with logic and with ethic that reflects the basis of ANY religion in the world — ie, the Golden Rule is universal in religion, whether you’re from the Ba’hai Faith or a Zen Buddhist monk. That’s good sense.

Sigh. Rant, rant, rant. Wind me up and watch me go.

T — If you have that clip, feel free to send it to me. I haven’t seen it, must look. Fucking people.

I’m not anti-American, and Americans need to understand that. The American Dream, I’m buying that, man. The American Reality? Hell, it keeps me up some nights.

What America is, is wrong. What America could be, is a beautiful idea. I’m holding out hope. I want to love my neighbours, but right now it’s hard to even tolerate ’em (politically, I mean).

    T — Forget it, I found the dickhead’s transcript.

I don’t think that even needs commenting on, but hey, it goes in the rainy day pile, to be sure.

I agree with you about your views on religion and the U.S. However, shouldn’t we start in our back yard? We have the same views (and groups) here in Canada. We have our own “red” and “blue” states as well.

  7. scribe called steff

Sure, yes, ignorance pisses me off regardless of where it is.

You read my rant in the comments on the posting below and I say precisely that, that once you leave the metro areas of the West Coast, it turns into conservative territory until you hit Ontario.

The DIFFERENCE is… they’re not shaping our policy. Our policy has been moving further from those beliefs over the last 35 years, and hasn’t looked back.

In Canada, the government does not get involved in the bedroom. We can buy sex toys anywhere in the country. We can fuck whom we choose, how we choose to. You can go to a sex club in Montreal and legally WATCH and PARTICIPATE.

I hate the Religious Right and their mandate, whether in Canada or America, but in Canada, they don’t run our poliy making, and that is a huge, huge difference.

Unless of course you live in Surrey, BC, (suburb of Vancouver) where the Christians have had a huge voice for a very long time. That won’t be changing.

Fatigue just hit me and I lost my point. Bed beckons/bellows/blares. 🙂

But religious fanaticism is something I despise, no matter who’s wearing it — Christian, Muslim, Jew. Same shit, different smell.

RELIGION is fine. For you, for them, whatever. Fanaticism of any kind is ridiculous when it prevents one from tolerating others’ views.

And trust me, the moment Stephen Harper starts pushing his agenda, my voice is gonna up in decibels.

Thanks for the comment, though. 🙂

  8. Mad Coyote

(Yup, say what you will about Pierre Trudeau, the man made the right call when it came to what goes on in our bedrooms…)

And I’d just like to point out that it depends on what area of Surrey you go to. Spend some time in the Whalley section, you may find yourself praying- that you’ll make it out. Now Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Langley (ick, high school)…I avoid those burgs like the plague.

As for Harper- I haven’t waited for him starting to push his agenda- I’ve already had two letters make it into the papers, one on the Emerson defection, another on ignoring softwood lumber tariffs in favour of “protecting Arctic sovereignty”.

Mind if I park my soapbox next to yours, Steff?

(Isn’t she hot when she gets all passionate and riled up like this??!)

Ohhh, where to start with the religious right. Where oh where.

The no sex before marriage thing is a joke. The whole feel dirty if you enjoy sex or shock horror masturbate is a joke – of course the only reason to have sex is to create babies, so you don’t need to do it more than once a month.

Support abortion and keeping brain dead patients alive, but support the death penalty. Where was that turn the other cheek thing in the Bible. Oh, that was in the namby pamby New Testament, which is completely out of cycle with War On Terror My Gun Is Bigger Than Your Gun And If You Disagree I Will Pretend You Are A Goose I Am Hunting syndrome pervading the politics down ‘south’. Or, actually north east of me here in Oz.

Heck, even John Kerry tried to pretend he was a big hunter dude.

I thought that Mohammed accepted that Judaism and Christianity were valid religions as well as Islam, just that Islam was the last time that God would speak to us to start up a religion.

But all Arabs are evil. Even a US ally and relatively progressive state such as Dubai can’t get permission from Congress and the redneck American public to buy ports. Surely if American companies wanted to bid for the ports, they would have? Fuck free trade, as long as it keeps foreigners out.

And the religious right’s passionate support for Israel, because of some understanding that the Jews need to control Jerusalem for the Rapture and Armageddon to happen. While keeping more Arabs in virtual prison camps.

Clinton got impeached for a blowjob, but Bush and company straight out lied about WMD and such, or not knowing that New Orleans could flood, leaving thousands dead, and all we seem to get is that FUCKING DUBYA SMIRK. Sorry about the caps, but everytime that guy smirks, I get so enraged, usually because he is making a joke of formerly impeachable offenses.

And gay sex and marriage. It’s just a fucking word people, if it’s a civil ceremony and not in a church, why the fuck should the religious lot care? It’s a genetic predisposition, it’s not something that can be caught by being around gay people.

And when will the government of the population that puts half of all pollutants in the air wake up to itself and realise the planet is fucking warming up? No, it may not be man made, the warming, but at least consider doing something, anything, apart from sitting on your hands and leaving the problem for the next generation.

Not even going to start on Indian nukes good, Iranian nukes bad, illegal wiretapping, the failure to capture Osama – I could go on.

Sorry for taking up so much space, Steff, just needed to staunch some of this acid I guess…

Hi Steff, unfortunately here in Canada, the religious right are beginning to shape our policies.
Admittedly, I haven’t followed or heard what has happened to this case lately, but there was a owner of a bar that was conviced of running a bawdy house in Quebec. It was an actual swingers bar or swingers club.
However, the Supreme Court of Canada overturned the conviction. If my memory is correct, it was overturned because couples were haveing sex, however, it was consentual between the parties and no money was exchanged. As an election promise, Mr. Harper was going to look into this case and potentially overturn the ruling by the supreme court of Canada.

As far as I know, this is on the Conservative Governments agenda, this particular case, as well as their right to over rule the Supreme Court decisions. Sorry, everything is off the top of my head and I may have some facts that are incorrect. However, I’m sure I got most of the story correct.

My point is…….the religious right ARE shaping our policies.

I also forgot the Conservative government and their agenda on same sex marriages. We are going backwards.

I agree with most of what you say, with one exceptoin: sexual exploitation of children. That is just plain evil. Doesn’t seem to bother the Erosbloggers though.

  12. scribe called steff

What? I posted in the post just below this about child pornography, so what’s your point?

And maybe Erosbloggers don’t write about it because it’s such an upsetting topic. I don’t know, but I’m not going to presume.

Talking about sex doesn’t mean you HAVE to talk about child pornography. I don’t want to write about it because it’s so fucking depressing.

Lemme say this: If you’re guilty of exploiting children, assaulting them, raping them, or profitting off of them in any way, I hope to God you go into the general prison population and the inmates find out. Yep, let ’em fucking wipe the floor with anyone like that, says I.

There is NOTHING worse than child abuse. Nothing.

  13. Rally

Prison…did someone say Prison?!!?! I used to work there. Unfortunately most inmates wont do anything to other inmates who are skinners. It is sad really. There is no inmate justice anymore.

Steff, I’ve seen this brilliant, moving post of yours reprinted in excerpts across the web now. It’s further proof of the sexiness of a strong woman’s mind, especially when she shares her thoughts and views. I can relate to your post and this description of yourself so much.

The Religious Right would assume one can’t talk openly about sex, needs, wishes, desires or even personal rights and still be a “good person” in every way. But, it’s true and we are, those of us who can speak up about private/taboo issues are quite normal really. 🙂

This is the time to speak up, more than ever before. You know that. And you’re one of the stronger voices. If you put together that podcast, I’d be one of your faithful fans AND I’d advertise it all over the net. 🙂 Just keep me updated.

We’re all waiting to hear just what you have to say and discover just how it’s going to further change our lives and those of those around us.

    xoxoxo
    Tara

BTW: I’d be honored to exchange site/blog links with you. Just let me know. 😉
