A Sad Day

My condolences go to anyone from Virginia Tech.

I deal with grief with humour sometimes and can be wholly inappropriate, but it gets me through. I had a few things to say on the other blog about the terrible shooting. It’s a pity the gunman is dead. I happen to think the whole Mussolini Method’s a great way to send evil fuckers to the grave: Hang ’em in the own square and let the villagers flog the corpse. That way you save money on everyone’s therapy and the villagers get a little exercise.

But, really, a terrible thing. And I’m already curdling at the thought of how the NRA’s going to spin this as “all the more reason to carry a pistol”, and some people will almost certainly be left in agreement. Me, I’d rather we do the Dead Milkmen take on Rodney King and “Can’t we all just smoke a bong?” I say we bring back the love-in, man. We could all use a little more love on a night like tonight. Let’s hope you’re getting yours.

It’s a big bad sad world out there some days. But on the upside, sometimes you lose a camera and a perfect stranger turns it in. Don’t forget, there’s good out there too, no matter what some fucker like this wants you to believe. Don’t let ’em convince you. Believe in good.

Over here in the UK some guy from “Gun Week” magazine was interviewed by the bbc. It seems the reason this was such a massive tragedy was because the campus was a gun-free zone and as such none of the victims were carrying firearms. This meant they couldn’t defend themselves apparently.

There’s your NRA spin, they always manage it eh?

i’d like to know how the kid got the gun in the first place. i’m not entirely for or against gun control, i think that what we have here in canada is a farce, but something needs to be done south of the border. there have been far too many tragedies like this to be ignored…..

Yeah, I’m pro-2nd amendment but not pro-NRA, and I understand making campus a gun-free zone at least for students. I’m in college so I know how dorm life is, and alcohol and firearms don’t mix. I just hate that there’s something so wrong with our culture. He was so much of a coward he killed himslef rather than deal with the consequences of what he did. Why do assholes think it’s ok to hurt others? It’s really depressing and kinda scary. We have armed police on our campus and our campus is pretty small (all within a 1km diameter circle) so I’m not too worried if it happened here but it’s still sobering and saddening.
