Unmerciful World: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Us, & The Scourge of Addiction

Stunning photo of the master in a moment of reflection. By Mark Abrams.

I was rocked to my core with news of one of my favourite actors’ death this morning. Gutted.
And I have been meaning to begin writing on Medium, where it’s easier to attract a new audience.
For the first time in a long time, I was really inspired to write. 2.5 hours later, I had written this one, at some whopping 2,500 words-plus.
Please visit Medium and read my post called Unmerciful World: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Us, & The Scourge of Addiction. Note: If you have a Medium account, you can click on the passages that touch you most and leave a comment there. Kinda neat.

What a wonderful tribute to Philip Seymour Hoffman. I am seldom (Never Ever) touched by anything I read on Facebook, but I discovered your article today and am humbled. Perfection.

I kind of get what you are saying. addiction is first and formost a personal problem. Philip Hoffman is a prime example of a person who was proclaimed by the media ( after he died) as being ahead of his time. He was an introvert who was felt by the elite as being mysterious. this made him popular in lots of circles. It also made his addiction or his anxiety easier to hide. its a bad situation for an addict to go through. rather than call his mom or a cousin or anyone who really cared he called a drug dealer. Im not cold hearted its just the way it happens. I had an addiction to pain pills and I can say sometimes the easiest call is the worst call. all respect to mr Hoffman and his family. he was awesome as brent in the big lebowski. he will make me laugh for the rest of my life from the grave. That is a greater legacy than most of us will leave.
